How it works
50 minutes, one to one, live on Zoom from Bali, booked around your time zone. We find out where your range actually stops and why — and what is worth working on for your hips, not a generic pair.
5 short lessons, about 20 minutes in total. Why sitting stiffens hips. Why skeletons vary and what that means for you. Mobility versus flexibility. Which sensations are useful, and which mean stop.
8 practice videos, 10 to 30 minutes each, in a simple four-week path. Low-load, controlled, and never about forcing a shape.

Course content
Part 1: Your private session with Ocha
50 minutes, one to one, live on Zoom from Bali, booked around your time zone. We find out where your range actually stops and why — and what is worth working on for your hips, not a generic pair.
Part 2: The theory
5 short lessons, about 20 minutes in total. Why sitting stiffens hips. Why skeletons vary and what that means for you. Mobility versus flexibility. Which sensations are useful, and which mean stop.
Part 3: The practice, week by week
8 practice videos, 10 to 30 minutes each, in a simple four-week path. Low-load, controlled, and never about forcing a shape.
Week 1: Meet your hips
Finding your actual range, without judgement. Gentle, reclined, low-load work.
Week 2: Open, slowly
Supported shapes and slow holds. The unglamorous part that does most of the work.
Week 3: Strength through range
Making the range yours to keep, rather than something that vanishes by Tuesday.
Week 4: Keep it
A short routine that fits a normal week, plus what to do after a long day of sitting.
Course description
You sit down to stretch your hips, and something else complains first.
Your knee. Your lower back. That one side that has never behaved. So you hold the shape, wait for the magic, feel nothing useful, and quietly conclude that your hips are simply like this.
What changes
Hips stiffen mostly from sitting — hours of the same angle, day after day, with nothing asking them for anything else. But stiffness is not only about being short of stretch. Mobility is range you can actually use: strength through the positions, not just the ability to be folded into them.
So this is not thirty minutes of pigeon pose and hoping. It is small, controlled movement to remind the joint what it has, strength work so the range is yours to keep, and enough anatomy that you stop blaming yourself for shapes your skeleton was never going to make.
Because hips vary enormously from person to person — the depth and angle of the socket differs, and no amount of practice changes bone. Knowing that is oddly freeing.
Hi, I'm Ocha
I'm a Balinese yoga teacher, born and raised in a village in Bali. I've been teaching since 2019 — here on the island, across the Indonesian archipelago, and in Europe. Somewhere past 5,000 people have practised with me by now.
I teach the way I'd want to be taught: slowly, without pressure, and without pretending that a yoga pose fixes everything.
Why I chose to work on hips
Because this is where people are hardest on themselves. They see a photo of someone in lotus and decide they have failed at yoga.
They have not failed. They just have different hips, and nobody ever told them that was allowed.
Can I promise you will sit in lotus?
No — and honestly, you may not want to.
Some hips will never make that shape safely, and forcing it is how knees get hurt. Teachers like Bernie Clark have written well about how much skeletal variation there is between people, and it is worth reading if this frustrates you.
If you have had a hip replacement, a labral tear, or hip pain that wakes you at night, talk to your doctor or physio before starting.
What I can offer is hips that move more freely than they do now, a body that feels steadier, and an end to comparing your insides to someone else's photograph.
This is the part no app and no video can give you: 50 minutes, one to one, live with me on Zoom from Bali, at a time that works in your time zone.
We talk about where you actually are — not where a course assumes you are — and then we practise together, so you can feel it rather than read about it.
You leave with a practice shaped around your life, and you can ask the things you would never ask in a group class.
This is for you if you recognise yourself here:
- I sit for most of the day and feel it when I stand up
- My hips have "always been tight"
- Stretching harder has not worked
- My knee or lower back complains before my hip does
- I want to understand why, not just be told what to do
This is probably not for you if:
- You want a strong, sweaty practice
- You want to be forced into lotus
- You have had a hip replacement or labral tear, or hip pain that wakes you at night — talk to your doctor or physio first.
20 places this round. That is not a countdown clock and it is not a marketing trick.
Every place includes a private hour with me, live on Zoom. There are only so many of those in a week, and I would rather do them properly than squeeze people in.
When these are gone the next round opens at a higher price. The private session is the expensive part, and I have kept it deliberately low while the course is new.
Very little. A quiet corner, and:
- A yoga mat, or a rug that does not slide
- Two blocks, or two firm cushions
- A blanket
- Optional: a strap, or a dressing-gown belt
"I am not flexible at all."
That is rather the point of starting. And flexibility is not the goal here — usable, steady range is.
"Why does my knee hurt in hip stretches?"
Usually because the hip has stopped before the shape has, and the knee is taking the difference. We cover exactly this in week 1.
"Will I ever sit cross-legged comfortably?"
Possibly. It depends partly on your skeleton, which no practice changes. We work with what you have rather than against it.
"What if I miss a week?"
Nothing breaks. The plan is a suggestion, not a test, and you have three months of access.
